11/22/2006: Taking shape...

It's amazing to see how much has been done in the last couple of months.  The rest of the brick front is in and the inner portions of the outer walls are up.  A crane was brought in to place beams for wall supports and ceilings.

The new shipping and loading dock on the East side can be seen here.

We're still anxiously awaiting the parking lot addition.  It shouldn't be long now.  Hopefully the parking lot will be here before the snow!  We can't believe it's the end of November already!  Where does the time go???

10/19/2006: The transformation...

Progress is definitely evident as construction continues on the new area of the building.  It's been quite the transformation, watching the area go from a parking lot to a field of dirt and rumbling machinery with gaping mud holes (thanks to the rain) to the flooring and walls of the new addition taking shape.  It's amazing to see how much has changed in the month since construction began.

Employees miss the additional parking that used to be available on the East side of the building.  The reality of oncoming Fall and Winter weather struck everyone on Wednesday, October 18th, when winter-like flurries chilled the air and covered everything in a light white blanket.  Walking the additional distance to the building didn't dampen the spirits of the employees, though.  Everyone has been assured that more parking will be available as the progress continues.

The view from the break room window (near the back of the building) shows the new shop floor being constructed.

It is exciting to see the new area coming together!

9/21/2006: The expansion is underway...

The building in the picture above barely resembles what has become a major construction zone.  The parking lot to the right of the building has been dug up and the front entrance is no longer accessible.  Of course, that has led to a bit of confusion for visitors.  (If you're planning on stopping in, please use the shipping entrance at the Southwest side of the building.)  When complete, the building will be twice its original size with a brand new entrance!

Parking space is minimal due to construction, as the better part of the parking lot is within the construction zone.  But the employees make due with the South parking lot, street parking and an adjacent lot East of MPTD.

Rumblings could be heard and felt throughout the building the last couple of weeks as machinery broke up the blacktop and dug up the ground around the building.  Employees had their own reality TV in the break room as they watched machines break up the cement where the designated smoking/break area used to be outside the big picture window.  What remains now is dirt and holes where heavy machinery move and flatten dirt around the area.  Rain has slowed the process a bit but overall, the project is progressing well.
