Assembly

[Product Image]

Midwest Precision Tool & Die, Inc. takes great pride in formally announcing the addition of their Assembly area.  Once just a specialty service for a high-volume customer, the assembly area has become a full-service department where they specialize in complex assemblies, single-run or high volume assemblies, and prototype assemblies.

When it was a specialty service, their customer required extreme tolerances and acute precision. The extreme sensitivity of the metal made it even more of a challenge.  Changes in temperature and humidity can affect the metal and cause thermal expansions.  It can lead to inaccuracies in the production of the part.  Because of the needs of the area, a special room was constructed with controlled humidity and consistent temperatures.  In that way, the assembly area is able to consistently achieve the promised tolerances and the accurate measurements.

Aiding in their quest for accuracy are some tools of the trade.  The room is equipped with two surface grinders to help machine to close tolerances.  They also have a Heidenhain linear height gauge.  This piece of equipment has been instrumental in achieving some of their tight tolerances.  When assembling, they are able to consistently take measurements and calculate to the millionths.  When anomalies are identified, the assembly staff works with the quality area and the customer to clarify any questions or print errors to ensure quality and accuracy in order to meet the customers specifications every time.

Tom, the assembly team lead, has worked at MPTD for 11 years.  When asked what makes it rewarding, he states he enjoys the challenge.  "Assembly is gratifying because it allows you to see the end result."  Having gained much of their experience as a specialized service, they've become experts at measuring up to tight specifications and creating intricate assemblies.  The talent in this group is amazing.
